Say it again Sam

So I’ve started applying for jobs locally and have also updated my on-line resumes to reflect the fact that I am looking for a part-time job on the main job sites (Monster, HotJobs and CareerBuilder). In every single one of them, I included a line in the objective where I state that I am only seeking part-time employment in the evening.

Two days after the fact, I have 30 messages in my inbox all with full-time job offers from various Joe Blow recruiting agencies. I am not looking for a full time job because I have one where I absolutely love working at. The only drawback it that it doesn’t pay as well as my last position, but I’m a much much saner IT guy.

So, just for shits and giggles, I called up a few of them to ask them if they read my resume. All of them admitted they read them fully and enjoyed them and then started into their sales pitch to get me to take their offer. I quickly cut them off and politely ask them to read the first three lines of my resume’s objective at the top of the sheet. They ask me why, but I assured them that they would see why I made this request very shortly after reading it.

They all started reading and then they came up to the part where I stated I am only looking for part-time employment. Then they realize why I made them do what they just did. They quickly apologize for the “oversight” and we’re off on our merry ways.

Then people wonder why I think 98% of all IT recruiters out there are just slobbering half wits who aren’t smart enough to tie their own shoes much less get a real job themselves.

Luckily enough however, I do have an interview with the local Best Buy’s Geek Squad tonight. Might have some better news tonight. 🙂

i have found recruiters generally suck. they only know keywords, they don’t understand things, and they just try and get you to take jobs they have available and will send you on interviews even if it is not what you are looking for. oi learned that thru experience early on, you have to be assertive with them and say no hehe 🙂 good luck 🙂

Ugh, I *so* know what you mean. My resume is up on all the major sites. I can’t tell you how many emails I’ve received from idiot recruiters wanting me to start a sales job. Hello, my experience is in clerical/administrative stuff, not making $100K a year selling crap. I just ignore all of them.

Good luck job hunting, that will be me a few short weeks.
I’m looking for current print work in modeling, slash nurse. The nursing part sux!!! But it pays the pills.

Ahhh! My sis is a nurse in a cariac ward up in North Jersey. Damn tough job and the poor thing is always tired and stressed but the pay is real good. Good luck with that modeling job! Liked your journal, hope ya don’t mind that I added you as a friend. 🙂
