Networks unplugged

Does anyone have any experience in setting up wireless network for their homes?

I recently purchased this access point a few weeks back so that I could use my laptop and our Axims without the need for cables all over the place. I also got this notebook card to speed along since I like watching movies across my network. I remember when I first installed that card though that I had to remove the WEP security in order for the card to see the access point which I found pretty odd.

I also needed a desktop wireless card for Devina’s PC which is in our bedroom so I waited for this bad boy to hit the market (as well as come down significantly in price) and I got it on Monday via my favorite on-line store.

Yesterday I finally managed to install it and again, I could not for the life of me, get it to connect to the access point without first disabling the encryption security. Once I made myself wide open to people leeching on, the card recognized the access point and then I could safely turn the encryption on again.

Is this a normal occurrence? It’s not a major deal since it’s a 2 minute job to disable and re-enable the security, but it just doesn’t seem right to me.
